the kid says the darnest thing - when the kid speaks to jie jie.
yan ting (saying Steph's friend looking like our common friend, M)
Stephanie says
HAHAHAHHAA
but M more unkempt (friendship bias)
yan ting says
i know, when u're frens with someone, they tend to look less ugly
tts why i always tell u u're not ugly
Stephanie says
HAHAHHAHAAHAHA FUCK YOU
lol
yan ting says
HEEHEEHEE
and i just want to clarify when i said "when i listened to utada hikaru's english songs, american music is close to pathetic" i didnt mean that utada's eng songs are awesome. in fact, they are NOT. they are so... urgh, typical.
if you dont get what i mean? here's what i say awesome to.
and heres why i think not.
i read a comment below, someone said "if i wasnt looking at the video, i would have thought it was a black singing" he/she's so damn right. not saying blacks are pathetic but they sing really well but, the way the song was put together was just like... arent there already at least a few hundred songs that sound like that?

Mock Test 2, OVER! i must say my last minute revision on all the bunpo was quite efficient. i did remember most of the new grammar/sentence structures :) listening was a tad fast but thank goodness for INSTEP. i could still catch the gist. BIG SMILE. 1 more week to JLPT.
here is tonight's facebook status: よくできたかな〜
先生が「mock test 2の listening...」と言ってたけど。ただ「ニノ」と聞いた ( ̄^ ̄)ゞ
Sorry Aiba. I still love you. You know I always do.

Anyway, I came home and heres what's on my skype.
"Oh, I seem cool?" (After Clarence just told me 你真的很奇怪)
So I figured I should check her profile.
Now, can I laugh? I never knew USA and Singapore were near each other. Hi, give me a moment, I need to go over to the states to get a new pair of jeans. Be back in 10 minutes.

I'm about to go crazy, the schedule is crazy.
Yesterday night at 11:59, I had a report due. I only started the day itself. I managed to finish it but was 4 hours late. I don't know if I'm going to get penalised. It's 30%. Then again... I'm not going to give a damn about it 10 years later.
27th Nov: JLPT Mock Test 2 30th Nov: Trauma Report
5 Dec: JLPT
11 Dec: Memory Paper
15 Dec: Trauma Paper
18 Dec: Workplace Paper
23 Dec: Clinical Paper
Yes, that means you won't see me till 23rd 5pm. Putting work aside...
Today, a friend died. Well, not today, I don't even know when. The best part is, we're not even friends on facebook. In fact, we barely spoke. I only remember his smile. We could barely communicate, he speaks spanish and great japanese but I was bad and he didnt speak English. In fact, I think he just kept turning behind and finally he smiled so I smiled back. I asked for his name. He asked for mine. We talked about where we're from. We were in a class or some guidance talk. Then we had to stop talking. That's it, of our friendship. The rest of it, was him and his gf whom I know as well. It's a love story, too sad.
Here's what I was downloading, 天国で君に会えたら (tengoku de kimi ni aetara). That says, If I can meet you in heaven. I always do very apt things.

"Naise." a word you use when you feel naise~
Due 11:59pm tonight, I have a 10 to 12-page report due and I only started... LAST NIGHT. and so I figured I must be really smart. I talked about it with Stabs. She agrees. She said "YOU ARE SMART"
yah right. i don't exactly think so right now but I have no choice but to create my own self-fulfilling FALLACY in order to boost my own motivation and efficiency and quality in my report I hope.
This brings us to (die die wanna squeeze it in) WORD OF THE DAY!
临时抱佛脚(lin2 shi2 bao4 fo2 jiao3)
literal. last minute hug buddha's leg.
Technically, it's not very apt for my situation because here I have to CHURN OUT a report, there's no point hugging buddha's leg now. But we usually use it on the eve of the exam when people start studying last minute. Technically, there you are hugging the Buddha's leg because you are trying to put things into your head while right now, I'm vomitting things out from my head. But if say I have a report to write and I'm only researching on it just before writting, that is hugging Buddha's leg. So yea, ancient Chinese did that in hope to succeed in a certain task due to blessings from the Buddha.
Very bad explanation today. I'm just trying to empty my laptop's battery before I start charging it. Meanwhile, I'm gonna take a mind-clearing bath :)

here to share a bit about myself 'musicians' i like: 嵐 - people i admire despite their gay presentation because i am able to overlook their gay disposition and appreciate their music and lyrics. technically, not THEIR music/lyrics because they barely wrote half of it but you get what i mean.
i thought this was awesome (but like i said, you gotta OVERLOOK. i suggest you play it and quickly toggle to another screen and just listen to the music)
and i just found something awesome to show that though they arent the best singers around, they are pretty damn good.
tts them
tts not
then again, maybe they have more money for better effects. i just want to say, i love the way different things are put together and its $%*&$*%&*#$ messy but it still sounds great (cf. Tokyo Jihen/東京事変, they do it best e.g. Shurabu/修羅場)
Now I sound like a music guru myself. No, I'm not. I can barely sightread a score, less say play the piano with both hands. and if only there's a way we could write music in words. Maybe some savants can. Wouldn't that be beautiful?
Word of the day: 与生俱来(yu3 sheng1 ju3 lai2) literal. With birth, it comes.
Usually used on gifts, things you're born in. commonly used on positive aspects. (i mean, who really wants to say their slanted eyes are given to them at birth? like, hello, not many people really have the courage to love themselves so much. of course im not saying its a bad thing but its just an example and features, like gestalt psychology, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts)
someone 不要脸 can say “我的美貌是与生俱来的。”="my beauty is natural." very bad translation but... urgh, my english proficiency just isnt up to it. by the way, 不要脸 = dont want your face/shameless

TOO BUSY! But we still need time for our mother tongue :) Anyway, people have been asking why did I cut my hair when my hair was so long? Ok, now the question sounds stupid when its written down because it sounds just like 'Why did you eat when your stomach was so empty?' lols.
And since I've decided to be nice, I answer people 'Because I just feel like cutting it.'
WHAT A LOUSY ANSWER.
so now i shall be serious and think about a good reason.
How's... Because I'm sick of seeing myself having the same hair style as most other people?
And then some asked 'Isn't the short hair quite common too?'
Well true... so how's... because I want to look like I'm tough and not so girly?
But now my hair curls in nicely, like a little doll *gasps* so it defeats the purpose.
I think we'll just take 'because I just felt like cutting it (for a very long time already).'
And that was a very lousy introduction of word of the day! which is literally 问长问短 (wen4 chang2 wen4 duan3)
literal. ask long ask short.
u can usually use it when people are being irritating by asking about every single detail when you think they're just asking too much. i dont mean people were asking too much but i meant it as a pun (like about the length of my hair).
and Jeffrey-san has a special request for 班门弄斧(ban1 men2 nong4 fu3) literal. making the axe in front of Ben's door (HAHAHAHAHA AM I SMART OR WHAT?)
this is used when people try to be smart-alec's in front of the real genius/Ben. e.g. 不要在XX面前班门弄斧。XX = the person who's really good expertise.
BIG SALE! 3rd word of the day 江郎才尽(jiang1 lang2 cai2 jin4)
literal. Mr Jiang used up all his talents. (and here's the poor man who lost his talents)
click on the link for a better explanation but its ALL chinese i warn you. a simpler example could be... let's refer to Jay Chou, you could feature him on the magazine with this "江郎才尽?" when you find that his songs are kind of... getting too similar or dull or boring or not as nice as before. But remember to post it as a question if not Mr Chou will 屌(diao3) you. and by the way, "屌" is a very vulgar word (according to my mum) that the older generation DO NOT use (unless necessary. we always have cases of exceptions, yea?). but thanks to Mr Chou, kids these days are saying fuck like nobody's business, in chinese :)

THIS IS SO FUNNY!
aiba! says:
show u peekture!
u sure drool
(very cute peekture of kinky)
valerie says:
CUTE
i just deactivated my fb account but wah hes a cutie pie
aiba! says:
haha not when u see this (quite gross peekture of kinky w/o hair gel and with specs)
a kid's upbringing is indeed very important. regardless of the attachment style the child has, if the mother is going to be talking about financial issues all the time, and somehow, only the younger, female kid(maybe because she thinks the little girl could identify with her and help her out), the little girl's gonna turn out like... yours truly :)
and that is the reason why im so uptight about money issues. say hi to stingy t!

1日1句:见好就收
literal. see good then keep.
it's usually used in advices, to suggest people to stop at the stage where all's still good. which links to another proverb: 得寸进尺 (literal. received an inch and asks for 1 foot)
so if you wanna form a sentence, you could tell a greedy person 见好就收,别得寸进尺。(since you're not at the losing end, you should stop being greedy and asking for more.)
and a little search (yes, this is the part on what i didnt know before)
so it could be applied in the other way too. to ask people to fight for more.
this is reflections from my recent 待人处事(dai4 ren2 chu3 shi4) which means... the way i handle my interpersonal relationships. as much as i STILL dont think theres anything wrong with me, i do realise this is not the way to work in this society because some people aren't the same as you are(to be more blunt, not keeping up). as much as i would LOVE TO just formulate my responses with loads of profanities to brag about my vocabulary, i've realised its better when i type it all out, with great satisfaction for my thirst for sarcasm, then press "backspace" to delete all that, leaving the main point behind that is likely to solve the problem. and then i click "send" to convey my opinions regarding the matter. i suppose that's the best, the person doesnt feel hurt, doesnt know im a bitch (but usually i leave a line of disclaimer saying 'im evil') and i feel like i did vent my emotions.
ok i broke the rule, 3 phrases to learn today :)

care if i show off a little? so cousin's got 3rd in class/cohort recently(in sec sch) and grandma decides to reward her a little. $300. grandpa has no choice but to fork out $300 too. well, to be fair u see. and so, great mum hears about it and mentions,'well, then to be fair, yan ting's got into top 3 a few times too.' so grandpa says,'ok, how many times?' parents can't remember and so one fine evening, dad comes home asking me. we calculated, 5 times.
i think my grandparents are in for the biggest shit in their lives. apart from WWII.
*disclaimer: nope, i havent called my grandpa to tell him yet because i dont have the heart to tell him.

there's something i should have said but didn't. happy valentines'
Endless memories,

today is probably the WORST day of my life. "why is this so?"
my gawd, i cant take that off my mind.
today the phrase "woke up on the wrong side of my bed" is very apt. though its not very applicable to MY bed because 3 of its sides are stuck right to the wall so theres really only ONE side i can get up on and if i do it on the wrong side, im either crashing into the wall or im a ghost capable of going thru walls (of which i'll still fall from the 14th floor and die again anyway)
here goes... (i think everyone misses my nasty-ness. or not~)
i walked to the train station, seldom without my headphones already over my head. i thought i could give my ears some rest and listen to nature. just before i crossed the road into the interchange... it all changed. all the sounds suddenly became noise. its not very helpful when the auntie in front of me kept bugging her friend whos going on a holiday about where hes doing and why did his wife go in a different direction. TOTALLY irritating. and reminds me of uncle tan from the library. uncle tan, is classic.
upon stepping into the interchange, the crazy amount of noise is just... it got unbearable. my head didnt hurt but it just felt like, the world is coming down on me. i figured, it must be the PMS. and i'd better have my earphones over soon. i can't explain it but that noise i heard... i seriously felt like i could just snap and be admitted into woodbridge in an instant.
am i glad to say, presentation's finally over? i hope patty liked it. give me high scores please! i really could do with an A- at least.
and so, im gonna sleep. but for all you people who have been anticipating some awesome chinese (like hell anyone reads this thing but im still gonna type it out anyway. im narcissistic)
犯贱(fan4 jian4) literal. commit sneaky acts
thanks to lijia, she inspired me. not that she 犯贱s but because she found a very close english translation for this: perverse. go check that out.
this word can be applied in many situations, and commonly used to describe females because its often the females that exhibit such behaviour.
e.g.1 somebody you care about but you shouldn't is online late at night, you have the urge to ask "not sleeping?" and apparently that is a sign of concern. that is a mild case of 犯贱.
e.g.2
your boyfriend/husband is highly abusive and he's tormented you so bad you could just make the hospital your 2nd home but you still defend him, saying he's been very nice to you (when he buys you flowers after beating you up for example). this is a serious and pretty nutsy case of 犯贱.

小时了了,大未必佳。(xiao shi liao3 liao3, da wei4 bi4 jia1)
literal. small time good good, big not necessarily good.
when you're doing great as a kid, your awesomeness may not continue into your adulthood. moral of the story, don't be over-contented with what little you've achieved and keep up the good work.
例1:本小姐(ben3 xiao3 jie3 = yours sincerely[and a female])

as lao jie puts it, this is poison. still, irresistible.
am very glad workplace presentation is over! left with memory and clinical. and i haven started on a single report! YAY-HEY! am going to fix my face now, shall think of a "word of the day" later.
Here's a short summary to my uni life. In year 1, I was afraid of not being termed "popular", so after much hesitation(because I'm still ultimately a shy girl at heart), I finally submitted my application for school camp. Wasn't selected lucky enough to be picked via balloting. In year 2, I joined the school camp as a senior though I have ABSOLUTE ZERO 関係 with them, hoping I would get more friends to say hi to in school. In year 3, I joined the camp as a OGL just to show my enthusiasm for school activities in my resume. this is the part we all have but am afraid to admit. In year 4, I finally learnt to face myself truthfully and I now dare say CHEERS ARE LAME. especially those with downright 低级 phrases/soundalike*. n your photos with your gang look lovely and pretty damn cool on facebook, especially when you go to clubs. but you, just like many others and any other gang, you only thrive in a party. you can't stand alone. *new term. I coined it
DISCLAIMER: the abovementioned should not be generalised as we all know those are just stereotypes (of the different sorts of people) and i must say, there are some who are genuinely amiable, fun, loves the crowd, yet independent and strong. but they are few.
人不为己,天诛地灭(ren bu wei ji3, tian zhu1 di mie4) literal. the person does not do for himself(lets me sexist yea?), the sky will kill and the earth will destroy you (can i laugh at myself now?)
basically, it means Every man for himself, and the devil takes the hindmost. but my english sucks so i dont know what does the 2nd line means. IN REALLY SIMPLE WORDS: BE SELFISH. and that is what im trying to master. haha. but a little check online and there's our something i didn't know either! (maybe i shd incorporate this into my fixed segment) “人不为己,天诛地灭”是自私自利者为自己辩护的托词,这句话可能在清代以后才流行起来,殊不知它最早的出处原意却是“人若为己,天诛地灭”。 so the original sentence was "人若为己" instead. SIMPLE WORDS: SERVE THE COMMUNITY.
my gawd... i failed in life.
^诛zhū (v.): to kill
-------------------------------------- PART II I said it, 无底深渊 (wu di3 shen1 yuan1) = Abyss SIMPLE!
you can use it metaphorically, like how i explain the intensity of my bad karma that i'm falling in to this abyss.
