today's topic: preconceptions.

e.g. if i've formed the preconception/bias of my student hating chinese, having a bad attitude, and being a spoilt brat, due to previous (few but existing) situations encountered, i will see all future events as fulfilling to my stereotype of him/her.

see? if i dont use "him/her" you'll already generalize all that description to my current students who are boys. that IS a mistake.

and this also leads to another concept: self-fulfilling bias/prophecy.
this concept deems that one will act in a way (towards an event/other people) subconsciously to fit their idea of the event/person/people.

lets say i think my korean teacher hates me. i will THEN, only act in ways to make her hate/dislike me more because subconsciously, i think she hates me, i act in ways that makes her dislike me, result: she responds with acts of dislike. thereby, my own actions result in hers which fulfils my idea of how she thinks about me.

simple?

social psych is one of the fields i love. so interesting. and not much memory work. because people arent that difficult to understand and read. in fact, dont bother reading people all the time. guessing their motives, analysing their every move or word. why make life difficult? like i always say, don't do it unless u're being paid. for something thats so strenuous on your mental capacity, do it only with sufficient extrinsic motivation. because it is of no fun. well, it is of some fun to some ppl perhaps. im sure there are psychopaths out there who enjoy breaking ppl up into pieces, not literally. so i say do it well, and do it good, when you get reasonable and sufficient consideration (ha! i tied psych topics in with biz law) for your hardwork and effort. people always get the wrong idea i have of money. they think i have the wrong idea. merge those 2 sentences: they get a wrong idea of my supposed wrong idea. isnt language fascinating?
